Firefighters on Friday evening quickly extinguished a fire at the University of West Florida's field house.

The fire was reported in the building's laundry room at 5:37 p.m., according to Paul Williams, interim Escambia County fire chief.

The building was evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

"We were called out here for, as you can see, a fire in the field house," he said. "When we arrived, there was smoke showing. But the fire was already contained inside of the dryer, and we extinguished it without any exposure or extension to the building."

At least six Escambia County fire engines, as well as UWF police, responded the fire.
