LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Allen V. Shanklin and his former girlfriend, Krystal T. Mayfield, argued early Saturday inside Mayfield's apartment, leading up to him setting fire to her laundry, according to police reports.
Mayfield, who has a protective order against Shanklin, allowed him into her apartment in the 2000 block of Greenbush Street until the two began to argue about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to police reports.
Mayfield told Shanklin to leave, and she stepped outside to call police, according to police reports.
When she returned to her apartment, Shanklin had put some of Mayfield's laundry on the stove and set them on fire, according to the police report.
Officers caught up with Shanklin about 1 p.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of North 15th Street, and arrested him.
Police booked Shanklin, 42, of the 1400 block of North 15th Street in Lafayette, into the Tippecanoe County Jail on suspicion of attempted arson and invasion of privacy, according to jail records.
He remained incarcerated Monday in lieu of bond, according to online jail records.
