SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a violent attack and attempted sexual assault and asking the public for help to help identify a suspect.
Just after 1:30p.m. Monday, police responded to an assault report at an apartment complex in the 2300 Block of North Summerset in Wichita, according to Police Lt. Christian Cory.
At the scene, officers located a visibly shaken 22-year-old woman who had a head injury. She told police police an unknown suspect attacked her in the complex laundry room. He struck her multiple times with a hammer and removed her pants. The suspect heard someone approaching and ran.
EMS transported the victim to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to Cory.
The suspect is described as a tall, bald black male who wore a brown shirt.
