Ed and Kim Miles spent a year looking at laundromats around the world to find the best business model for their new south side Spartanburg laundromat Rocket Laundry.

"We realized we could make one not incredibly expensive that was a pleasant place to hang out," said Kim Miles, co-owner of Rocket Laundry.

The laundromat has more than 50 Speed Queen washing machines and dryers that range from $3-8 — but also has room for people to hang out, read or study and an area for children with books donated by the Spartanburg County Library.

The Miles said they knew the south side needed a laundromat, which is part of the reason why they chose the South Church Street location.

"I hope that we have brought an anchor business," Ed Miles said. "We've brought a unique construction with a unique design. And I think it's gonna be very popular and hopefully it'll attract more business."

Find more information about Rocket Laundry below, along with updates on Blue's Boulevard's rebranding, a hardware store in Cowpens, a downtown restaurant, an event space and office space for rent in Landrum.

  • Cato is waiting until November and not setting an exact date to open Blues Boulevard and Cigars because of COVID-19 concerns — he doesn't want to open too early, he said.
  • The last Blues Boulevard operators were Patrick and Iris Moss, whose lease expired at the end of August. The pair decided not to renew because it was difficult to operate during COVID-19 and as residents of Charlotte, North Carolina, said Mark Sullivan who owns the Blues Boulevard brand.
  • Blues Boulevard has been in Spartanburg since 2009, Sullivan said, and has another location in Greenville.
