For Clay Today
MIDDLEBURG – A collaboration between Wilkinson Junior High and A Community Partnership School opened a new laundry center and clothing exchange on campus Wednesday afternoon.
The laundry center and clothing exchange is open to the public from 1-4 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Funding for the laundry center and clothing exchange was provided by Baptist Health, a core partner within the Community Partnership Schools model.
Christina Cornwell, Wilkinson Jr. High Principal, Ernest Hamilton, Children’s Home Society of Florida Regional Executive Director, State Sen. (R-Dist. 5) Rob Bradley, Clay County Commissioner Chairman Gayward Hendry, and Clay County Superintendent David Broskie joined in the grand opening.
Chronic absences due to a lack of clean clothes can take a devastating toll on course performance and a student’s overall success. The Wilkinson Jr. High Eagles’ Clothing Exchange and Laundry Center offers students, families and the surrounding community access to clean, new clothes and the use of a washing machine and dryer – all at no cost. By removing access barriers to learning, the Community Partnership Schools model is helping more Clay County children realize their full potential.
Wilkinson Jr High, A Community Partnership School is a collaborative partnership among Children’s Home Society of Florida, Baptist Health, St. Johns River State College and Clay County School District. Together, partners focus on removing tough barriers to learning by bringing together high-quality academics, health care, counseling, support and more— right on-site at the school.
The Wilkson Jr. High School Community Leadership Council along with teachers, administration, community volunteers and parents provided additional support for this initiative.
On the front lines since 1902, Children’s Home Society of Florida is the oldest and largest statewide organization devoted to helping children and families. Children’s Home Society of Florida serves more than 50,000 children and family members throughout the state each year. More: www.chsfl.org.
