Humor site The Onion focused its satirical eye on Gavin Newsom Thursday as California's governor was taken to task over a birthday party he attended at The French Laundry, which ignored the state's guidelines for group gatherings.
But rather than skewer Newsom directly, the publication instead decided to poke fun at the restaurant of choice — while swiping at the Bay Area's food snobbery at the same time.
"Gov. Gavin Newsom of California was widely criticized Thursday for eating at The French Laundry when Atelier Crenn offers a clearly superior take on contemporary cuisine," the Onion wrote, referencing chef Dominique Crenn's popular, three-Michelin-starred restaurant.

Bay Area resident "Ian Samuels" told the Onion that Thomas Keller's storied restaurant "peaked 15 years ago" while calling Atelier Crenn a "strikingly inventive restaurant."
“How can we trust this man to lead us when his taste in restaurants is so pedestrian?" Samuels asked.
I won't spoil too much of the fun, but the article is a bit more Bay Area-restaurants insidery than its typical fodder — but it's worth the read. Head over to The Onion to see the article in its entirety.
