HOBOKEN, NJ - A Hoboken man with a laundry list of convictions and confrontations with Hoboken Police has been arrested after fighting with cops who were investigating the theft of detergent and seafood from a local grocery.
Just after noon on Saturday, Officer Dennis Figueroa, Jr. responded to ACME Supermarket 614 Clinton Street on a report of a shoplifter. An employee reported that the alleged perpetrator had committed two shoplifting incidents throughout the day. Earlier in the day, he had come in and left with several bags of shrimp without paying. Upon returning to the store, he was stopped as he tried to exit and was discovered to be in possession of unpaid laundry detergent products.
Moments after he ran out of the store, Sergeant David Olivera located an individual matching his description in the area of 300 Marshall Drive. When Sergeant Olivera attempted to stop the suspect, he ran into a nearby building. Officer Anthony Olivera and Officer Frank Francolino responded to back up Sergeant Olivera, and the perpetrator was placed under arrest.
Ricardo Burgos, 57, is an individual known to the local authorities, a statement said. He was recently implicated in a Hoboken-area package theft ring, and has numerous prior convictions for similar offenses.
During the arrest, Burgos caused minor injuries to both Officer Frank Francolino and Officer Anthony Olivera. He was transported to headquarters and was charged with both Shoplifting, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Terroristic Threats, and Resisting Arrest.
Burgos also had two open warrants for his arrest out of Hoboken Municipal Court, and he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
"A career criminal is off the streets tonight after minor injuries to two officers," said Hoboken Police Chief Ken Ferrante, via twitter.
