A group of young farmers have started a “laundry sewa” for their brethren protesting at the Singhu border against the three farm laws for the past 16 days.
“I stayed at the Singhu border for nine days and went back home to get my clothes washed. It occurred to me that other farmers were also facing the same problem. So, I brought two washing machines with me and started ‘laundry sewa’,” said Prince, a farmer from Ludhiana.
Every day, he and other farmers wash clothes of 50 to 60 farmers. “We have been making announcements for the protesting farmers to get their clothes washed,” he added.
Their initiative has been hailed. Sandeep Singh from Yamunanagar appreciated the effort of Prince and others. “I used to go home to wash my clothes. Thanks to the free laundry service, I get my clothes washed here,” he said.
Bathinda resident Gurpal Singh (56) said the “laundry sewa” was helping farmers maintain personal hygiene.
