Hospice of Washington County is one of several nonprofit organizations that received a COVID-19 relief grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation last November.

The organization, which serves a seven-county region, received $23,629. Executive Director Katrina Altenhofen says the funding was needed as they had additional expenses in the past year ensuring staff had proper personal protective equipment, “Some of the things that we looked at with that Riverboat funding was to assure that we could get a washer and dryer system that was having the sanitizing cycles and things that we were going to need to ensure that we were getting things as clean as we needed to have them.”

Altenhofen adds that the grant is also being used to upgrade their “antiquated communication system” so their patients can use Zoom or other video conferencing technology. As a healthcare agency, Altenhofen says this grant has also helped them comply with the expanded rules and regulations for infection control during the pandemic. She also thanks the public in helping make their recent 26th annual drive-through soup supper and basket auction their most profitable fundraiser to date.
