"Friends Who Give Back" is a group of locals who help the community when they see a need. With the Jackson water crisis, they saw one thing people have had trouble with."We noticed a need for laundry, so we decided to do that instead of a water giveaway," said event organizer Pam Greer. With low or no water pressure, laundry has piled up for some and even with water pressure restored, many have said that they do not want to ruin their clothes with discolored water."They need clean clothes to go to work or school or wherever they need to go," said Greer. The "Friends Who Give Back" teamed up with Keyway Laundry in Byram to offer their service to those in need. To keep things organized and people socially distanced, they offered appointments only."As soon as people saw appointment only the phone rang off the hook for two weeks," said Greer.Organizers state that the response has been great and it feels good to be able to offer something that so many are thankful for."People have expressed how much they need and appreciate it and how its not a cost they have to worry about that they couldn't fit into their monthly budget," said Greer. The cost of the free laundry event was covered by donations to friends who give back.
