The home for adults with special needs has a goal to raise $100,000 to build a new laundry room for their fifteen residents.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The people with the 305 8th Street community are getting closer to getting a new laundry room.

305 8th Street is a home for adults with special needs. They currently have one washer and one dryer for their fifteen residents.

305 8th Street Program Director Cydney Amos said, "Using that washer and dryer everyday for fifteen residents can do a lot of wear and tear, and so we are hoping to build a brand new laundry facility."

They want to tear down their current shed and build a laundry room with four washers, four dryers, and extra storage to better accommodate their residents.

"We have several residents that are on a cycling club team and so we have several tri-bikes and bicycles that need storage, and they take up a lot of storage," said Amos.

The home solely relies on donations to operate. They have a goal to raise $100,000 for the project. Right now, they have $25,000 left to go.

"We are not funded by the state whatsoever," said Amos. "We really rely on prayer and people in our community to just give back and if they feel led to give, then we are super grateful for whatever they give."

They hope to begin construction on the new laundry room this summer and complete it by the fall.

"We hope to have everything completely done by the fall and by Christmas that way our residents can have a good start," said Amos.

305 8th Street says they are always in need of volunteers to hang out with the residents, take residents to outings, and help with lawn care.
