A man allegedly shot his sister-in-law in the head Sunday morning at a North Portland house after arguing with his brother over laundry, according to court documents released Monday.
Alexandra Arb-Bloodgood, 29, died at the home in the 8000 block of North Newman Avenue, police said.
Officers arrested Shane Finnell, 25, at the scene, police said. He is being held in jail on accusations of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
“I did a horrible thing,” Finnell told officers after he was arrested, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
A neighbor across the street called 911 after hearing a gunshot and seeing Finnell waving his arms and appearing upset, the affidavit said.
Finnell’s brother, Jordan Arb, told police that he and his brother had been arguing over laundry, according to the affidavit. Arb was married to Arb-Bloodgood.
Finnell threw a potted plant at him during the argument, Arb told police.
Arb said his wife was sitting on a chair on the back patio facing away from Finnell and that Finnell walked over to Arb-Bloodgood and “shot her in the back of the head at close range with a revolver,” the court document said.
Police didn’t specify who lived at the home, but court records from a dismissed speeding citation show Finnell listed a home address in that same block a month ago.
The shooting is the 33rd homicide in Portland since the start of 2021. The number includes a fatal shooting by a Portland police officer of a man in Lents Park in April.
