MARION (WSIL) -- A local group is helping people keep some extra money in their pockets while having clean clothes in this edition of Unsung Hero.
Doing laundry can be a dreaded and sometimes expensive chore, especially if you don't have a washer or dryer. But the Williamson County Heartland Rotary club is helping ease that stress a little bit. The group has partnered with Wonder Wash Laundry Center in Marion to provide a free laundry day to patrons. Every fourth Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., volunteers from the group provide quarters and soap to anyone in need.
"It is very rewarding to be {actually} able to help some of these people and {really} just hear their stories," said club Treasurer Megan Zeller.
The limit is three small loads, one large load, or two medium loads per family. Zeller says this is a perfect example of the clubs' motto, service above self.
"We couldn't do it without the community support that we get. We have been blessed with a good group of people in our club that are wonderful and civic-minded," added Megan.
The rotary provides the service, and Buckets for Benefit provides the Soap and Fabric Softener. Megan said they hope to continue with the program, but that requires funding. If you're interested in partnering for projects or joining their Rotary club or want to donate, contact Zeller at Priority Staffing Group or email heartlandrotary@gmail.com.
